Handbell Choir

Handbell Director: Jody Perrell

With 11 ringers playing 3 octaves of handbells and handchimes, we enjoy playing a wide variety of pieces, from relaxing melodies to fast-paced, joyous hymn arrangements. Occasionally, throughout the year, we will take our bells "on the road" and perform at local nursing homes and assisted living facilities.  Like the Chancel Choir, we also take some time off during the summer months, typically from June through August, although, we ALWAYS make it a point to play at our Homecoming service, which is the fourth Sunday in June.

For our 150th Homecoming celebration in 2019, we played a commissioned piece written for us by Mark Kurtz, the son of our former pastor, Milbert Kurtz, and our former handbell director, Janet Kurtz.

To date, we have participated in three Handbell Workshops at First Presbyterian Church in Salisbury, NC.  The most recent workshop was led by Cathy Moklebust.  We have also attended workshops under the direction of Timothy Waugh and Michael Glasgow.

The Handbell Choir holds rehearsals on Sunday afternoons at 5:00.
